One major bit of cleanup - the "snow" in the final panel has spent the past few years falling well short of filling the space. BUT NO LONGER!

It is very, very important for me to note that I reused half of the hammering -3- source material - panels three and four respectively. While these shots are anatomically bogus, they blow away what came out of my pen today. "Bad" is a good word for it, really- a really, really good word. I relish the idea of redoing these panels about as much as I'm enjoying the shitty weather and hangover, so I consider the whole mess to be a lesson well learned: "don't drink and draw."

You'd think I'd know this by now.

The hands don't dominate this time around - and the lighting is completely different, which makes me happy. Ditto Val's much more aggressive attitude- the semi-autistic shut-in of hammering doesn't exactly instill, yanno, PHEER.

The original post is noteworthy in that in it, I'm still figuring out the shading process- something that I never really completely nailed until near the end of Chapter Two.

20050423-1739 : straightened out the stick in panel four. It's still crooked as hell, but it's less noticeably so.

See? I'd fix it completely but then I'd be obligated to fix finger lengths... which would obligate me to fix finger lengths in panel three, the hand in panel one, and before you know it I'd have spent more time fixing this page than I will making the next one. So, that ain't happening.

Originally hammering -3-, done 29 May 2003 and back-published 2003-05-23 15:05:42. The original sketch version was split into pages three and four for reasons of space, resolution, aesthetic, pacing... a whole lot of things. Ultimately, hammering "worked" better as five pages instead of four.

The scary bit is that my ability to draw hands hasn't really improved much. :/

Hammering on the Gates of Nothing -3-

Okay.

Updated with a new version of the page on 30 May, 0109 hours.

I think I've figured out how to do this.

No, really. I think I have. It sure as hell isn't fast, but it works. The clothes on page 2 are rough- they were done first. I got sick of the ickiness of the pencil and switched to the lasso for all of the fills after that. The difference is obvious.

This. Was worth the hassle.
