More reworking, and more extensive than the last page. While I'm loath to throw out three backgrounds I worked pretty hard on (at the time), the Sabrosa readout is no longer accurate, the flight deck is no longer accurate, and in the new context, the doorway panel is unnecessary. This works over this page and the next - it chops two door passthroughs to one... and replaces old photoshop backgrounds with new bling.

The Daedalus shot in the last page was Scanline - I've moved to Mental Ray here, for a couple of good reasons. The first is that in some cases it's a lot faster. The second is that the Sabrosa hates scanline. Boy does it ever hate scanline.

Oh, and another fun fact - thanks to having actually read a bit about rockets, physics, orbital mechanics, spaceflight, etceteras over the past few years... the Daedalus is now coasting. As it should. Full burn into an earth orbital insertion? Looks great, but I'd prefer to leave the OMG TREKNOLOGY!!! to the Aeon* and the Sabrosa for the time being.

* The black ship Whitehouse keeps seeing in Dead City Radio. The one that looks like a bug and an electrical plug had a baby. It's made out of ninjas and unicorns, and you'll see more of it when I get back to progressing that story.

20070721 : Fixed a typo, upscaled the image and fixed the fonts.

20070728 : Replaced the top panel with the 3d Sabrosa. From camera setup to finished image? About 1/20th the time it took to build the original backdrop.

So yeah. How about that accidental 2001 Tribute.

Didn't realize the resemblance until I was actually laying out the line work in Photoshop. The lettering for this piece was done yesterday- the rest of it was started at five PM. Almost five hours for four complete photoshop backdrops, with details, fully shaded, with all of the line art built in photoshop as well: no scans on this one. :)

This went a whole hell of a lot faster than I had expected it to, which is probably a good thing. :D Or a bad thing. In any case, I've gotten orders of magnetude faster with background rendering since the first one I created without cheating.

Wheefun. This changes the time schedule- page three may well be up by Saturday.
