Oof. Panels one and two HAD to be preserved for width, which in turn meant panels four through six were then preserved for height. While I've tried to preserve the bits I like of the 5/6 background, the end result is that some detail has been lost. Them's the breaks, I guess. The upside of this composition? Only two pieces of linework to clean up. I've already expended a good fifteen or sixteen hours on Descent 3-7... so here's where the corners get cut.

Yay : The chapter label actually fits okay. Boo : It also crops off Raven's binoculars.

Still technically Editing, but it feels good to actually be doing something new, as opposed to a redux or an extension of an existing scene. I haven't technically done anything "new" since mid April - everything has been either edits or new pages to augment scenes.

Which is what descent is, honestly. It fills an admittedly small gap in the story, but it's a gap that annoys me a great deal - moreso than the material that was cut from briefing. It turns out that I ultimately didn't need the few pages that were cut from Chapter Three, but descent needs to be here in order for everything to cinch together in a way that doesn't cause me to lose sleep and sobriety.

It ought to be pretty obvious where this is going, so I won't spoil it with exposition.

Technically, the order of stills that Raven is looking at was originally going 4-3-2-1 instead of the 1-2-3-4 they're presented in. The original intent was to have the reversed chronological order function as a pull-out from the previous scene, with the overall layout transitioning from the previous page (a blue / night cut straight to sunset? Perish the thought!), but in context, the 1-2-3-4 layout is both a recap (for anyone Just Vectoring In) and is the natural order that Raven would be looking at the information in anyway.

So yeah. The newest scene links the redux of the oldest scene into the second-to-oldest scene. Which, since I've replaced hammering, has seniority.

The transition shouldn't be too jarring- I'd like to say that the errors on this page and the next few are intentional, just to, yanno, smooth things through, but they're not. A short spate of sucking happens to be something of a convenience for once!
