Pulled apart and put back together again - a few things haven't been changed, but Xand's background and the background of the bottom panel have been scaled extensively. The Chibi raven and the remaining panels haven't been touched in terms of scale. End result is that while it's the same basic layout, the panel composition has changed quite a bit.
Cleanup has been very minimal. Of the first six pages of this scene, the other five were completed first and my patience has a limit. I think enough rework was done for me to skimp on the cleanup - at least this once. A lot of tweaking went into the next page, and that's the one that'll be sitting on top for a few days. Or weeks.

In 2003, I used Chibi for much the same reason the Japanese do - it's a total cop-out on drawing more detailed emotional expression. I'm so happy I've grown out of that phase.

YAY CHIBI.
:D
No, really. First one. Ever. Appropriate, if you ask me.
I feel much better about 8 than I did 7- mainly because I got this one on the first take, so to speak. I'm getting a bit faster with background painting, and am still figuring out tricks to "speed up" processing. As it stands, this one took about six hours or so, counting breaks. Backgrounds have a tendency to greatly complicate the speed of production.
In other news, I dropped Speakeasy a line today, and proceeded smoothly through the whole "I want ADSL! plz!" rigamarole right up to the point I was asked for a credit card or debit number. Not having either of these, I was a bit disturbed by the requirement for one or the other. So I'm going to have to open a bank account, get a debit card, drop half of my next paycheck in it, and keep it stuffed full of teh monee on a monthly basis. Freaky shit.
But hey. I'm fucking sick of modem disconnects and downloading pr0n at 56k. I figure it's worth the hassle. More importantly, the alleged convenience.
So.
That should hopefully be it for chibi for awhile. Seems to me most people resort to it largely for the fact that it's fast and easy (for them) and is easy to use to imply humor. Having never drawn chibi ever, the speed and ease thing definitely wasn't the case.
Enjoy the cheesecake.
