recon -10-

posted 2009.07.04 at 18:05

Three versions of panel three and they've all been basically the same thing: first to get it done, then to make it look good, and finally to keep it consistent with the rest of the redone scene. Yeah buddy!

Laying the groundwork for the next Heirotus scene, in the next chapter... and neatly summarizing the mess they've gotten themselves into.

Given the price tag of a Majestic*, it's a safe bet that Brand is going to be really unhappy.

* Assuming equivalency in technologies and for the sake of comparison assuming Heirotus holds to the Dollar, unit cost of a Majestic would be around $20.5 billion, with approximately 20.2 of that tied up in the psionics package. Add in the cost of training and maintaining availability of a navigator and orma host and the fly-away price jumps to around $30.2, plus fuel and not including the maintenance infrastructure. Comparing the Majestic spaceframe to current military airframes, the only major differences are the power plant and the psionics package.

20070730 : Rewritten and tweak. Previous version here. Yes, I know the earth isn't that big from the moon. It's called artistic license.

Edited 20050430 : Shrunk the status readout at the bottom just a bit, which gave the page enough space to move Grij's last two lines up a hair. This is one of those things that looks fine on the net but was really burning my ass in the hardcopy - text that close to the bottom looks like it's about to fall off, dammit.

Yeah, the layout's a little similar to the last page of Chapter Two, but hey- it works and this time there isn't a Chapter Title sitting between it and the next page.

I actually drew a frame I wound up not using. Haven't done that in quite awhile- not since Chapter One, I think. Wanted to give more space to the moonshot and the Captain's arms being crossed was also something I wanted to show.

So... recon is complete. Hope it was educational. The next scene has been tagged as minddive in my notes, mainly because I haven't decided on a title for it yet. Obviously, I was off in my old news post in which I postulated that scenes would be Velocity length and I'd have a title for the next bit by now. Big surprise.

Between now and the start of the next scene I'll be spending a few days in Philly hanging with bda, which should be cool. Assuming he doesn't kill me or kick me out for being unduely weird. There's also the elections, which I feel strongly about. It annoys the piss out of me that the Democrats have been completely unable to annihilate or even so much as scratch Bush, when they've had more ammunition than any political party in fucking HISTORY.

Some of that vitriol is being filtered into the next scene. It should be pretty cool- my notes and preliminary sketches for it are turning the Events Model of the plot outline into something quite a bit more @_@ than I'd anticipated. Maybe this time I won't compromise and cheese out. Fuck, I'm over a month behind schedule and have the rest of the year to crank out the thirteen to fifteen pages that will wrap up the chapter. Nine weeks ought to be enough time to make it Good, yes?

12:41 < mdxi> solios: i might be wrong, but, ah, is something actually HAPPENING?
12:41 < solios> shhhhh.

Typos fixed at around four and at nine-fifteen respectively.
