Reformatting for this chapter has been done on a "cg first" basis* - Callback, then Reentry (which was Velocity for some damned reason - I'm sure it was a good idea at the time but damned if I can tell you what the logic was back then). The idea was to get Reentry base reformatted and ready for rendering, then to work on Guide and Zoo while renders for Reentry chug.** To keep some kind of mental continuity for myself, I went straight for the Daedalus shots first... so for me, there's been no production break between callback -8- and this page.
It's kind of nice doing things way the hell out of sequence for once. While I'm not working in "plot" order, I am following the Greg thread through to completion before working on West, Grij, or Thad. And that's pretty cool.
Unfortunately, mental ray decided to do the "water stains" thing - chunks of the model sort of "splattered" by final gather... so the first shot had to be done with scanline. I don't know WHY it does that - it seems to have trouble with reasonably flat geometry for some reason. One of these days I may post an example, if I think to save one.
* It was. Then instead of finishing the last two pages of this bit (and doing the CG for the rework of the scene after that), I went back and reformatted guide. But I did do all of the Daedalus-centric CG in one whack. So there's that.
** The reality is very different. The reality is that instead of working on other ATC pages that don't require CG, I spend my time chainsmoking, playing Disgaea DS, and doing pr0n illustrations.
Which, in all fairness, is what I did while ATC was rendering the first time around.

Mastering, 20070721 : Page has been properly sized. Dialogue rewritten and properly scaled. This is the first of the pages in Chapters One and Two to be Adjusted in such a fashion - the rest of them will follow in short order.
While I'm at it I'm dropping the little "e" things from the page titles.
Also, changed RLF (which means "Rhikommi Light Freighter") to ICS (Independant Cargo Ship).

Killed Greg's internal monologue, which was superimposed behind his actual dialogue. I can't read it, and if I can't, you probably can't. It doesn't even show up in the webscale version. After that was axed, I fixed some convergence issues with the dialogue, expanded Shannon's first line into something a little more natural, fixed font sizing on the narration and tweaked the lightingon the characters just a bit.
All in a days work.

And the Daedalus finally debuts. Many thanks to Chris Bodine for modelling the vessel, doing the initial renders, and refreshing my memory as to how the process works so I could render out the second shot of the vehicle- I was originally intending to use a different angle, but the composition makes much more sense this way. :-)

That aside, I'm still working on style revisions- backgrounds aren't as painful as I thought they would be at this level of low detail, and I've started making more effort in the finishing department with contrast adjustments.
